On May 18th, 2019, Tamils across the globe commemorate the 10th year anniversary of the Mullivaikkal Massacre.

The diaspora community holds large commemorations to honour and remember the lives that were lost. In Ontario, Tamils mark the 10th year anniversary of Mulivaikkal with the introduction of Bill 104 – Tamil Genocide Education Week. Elected leaders stood in solidarity with the Tamil community, as they recognized Mullivaikkal – Tamil Genocide Remembrance Day.

In Sri Lanka, the 10th year of Mulivaikal comes only days after the Easter Sunday bombings. Despite heightened security, excessive military presence and check-points, Tamils gather to honour the lives that were lost 10 years ago.
