As of 2018, displaced Tamil villagers have not been able to return to their livelihoods. Villages, such as Iranaitivu and Keppapilavu, have been leading and participation in peaceful protests demanding the release of their lands for over 365 days. Military occupation has caused these families to seek refuge in neighboring villages, making a living without many resources and with  fear of returning to their land and living along the Sri Lankan army.
